4 Signs Your Brand Needs a New Identity

You know how it feels when your style changes and you try to wear an outfit that’s just not you anymore? Stripes maybe aren’t your thing anymore, or you’re morphing from preppy into boho… or just simplifying altogether?

Yeah, that’s kind of what it feels like to try to run a business with a brand identity that just doesn’t jive with your audience, voice, mission and persona.

So, today I want to help you figure out if you really do need a refreshed brand identity, regardless of what stage of growth your creative business is in. Let’s get started!

4 Reasons to Update Your Branding

1 | You don’t feel confident in your brand’s ability to stand up to the competition.

Ooooof, let’s start with the heavy hitter, shall we?

You already inherently know, waaaay deep down, whether you feel confident in your brand’s ability to stand out against your competition. And if you’re lacking in confidence, it’s likely affecting your ability to book the clients you love, and sell the products you create!

2 | You don’t want to show off your website.

Let’s hearken back to our bad outfit reference. There’s almost *no* worse feeling than when you’re wearing an outfit you can’t stand, and someone asks you about it. “Oh, what shoes are those?” “Where did you get those pants?”

And you cringe, because you don’t want to even ADDRESS the outfit elephant in the room. Right?

The same feeling applies to being asked to share your website (aka your digital business card) as a business owner, when said website doesn’t suit your brand or light you up.

3 | You’re not booking the clients you love.

Bookings come from inquiries, and inquiries are acquired through content creation and searching for your business online. If the “bait” (aka, your branding) you’re using isn’t up to snuff, the fish you reel in (aka your clients) won’t be the fish you love.

I really need to quit it with the analogies, don’t I?

But seriously, branding that suits you, your audience, your voice and persona leads to bookings and clients you love and enjoy!

4 | You’re not getting paid what you deserve.

Okay, so maybe you’re booking clients you like, or potentially even love. Are they paying you a livable wage, one that you feel and know is inherently fair and a good reflection of your worth?

It’s difficult to leverage higher pay when your branding isn’t professional and consistent across all platforms. Taking the time to research your audience, goals and needs prior to designing a brand that fits said audience, goals and needs will allow you to create an identity that earns the right to charge more.

So, you know you need to spruce up your brand identity. What now?
