Nando's Peri-Peri in Maryland - Crocheted Jute Twine Lampshades
In 2015, I was commissioned to create a series of crocheted jute twine lampshades for Nando's Peri-Peri in Maryland (left). This was the biggest project I had ever done, and took me a few months to complete. They resembled upside-down baskets in various sizes, and had to be painted with watered-down paint in various colors in order to get the look required. I had a lot of fun creating these, and love seeing photos of them on display!
Nando's Peri-Peri on Wabash Ave, Chicago - Knitted Wool Lampshades
Later, in 2016, I received another commission request - this time for knitted lamp covers for these giant lightbulbs that would be installed at Nando's Peri-Peri on Wabash Ave. in Chicago (below). I designed and knitted over 50 of these babies, using 100% wool to lower the risk of flammability. Wool is naturally flame-resistant, and the bulbs are LED. The shades popped right over the socket and over the bulb to create little hats, and were knitted in a variety of warm colors that fit Nando's brand.
I was able to visit this restaurant in June of 2017 and see the lamps in person. They looked incredible!
