It was a rainy, icy weekend here in the cold North. The snow shrank down during the week, but was quickly covered in a shell of ice. It's so cute to see the birds braving the cold, though - you can hear them singing every time you step outside. They know better than anyone that spring is very close! During the weekend I made something a little different - a piece of embroidered wall art with crocheted edging! I love mixing needlecrafts and this piece is no exception.
I found a few yards of lovely blue floral cotton at Goodwill (completely unused!) and decided to embroider a scrap of it. For some reason I have an abundance of blue embroidery floss and have been looking for ways to use it up. This seemed as good a way as any.
After stitching a few of the flowers and vines to add some dimension to the fabric, I snipped it into a pretty banner shape and crocheted the edges, adding a bit of fringe to the bottom. Tied it to a dowel and there you are!
Here's more detail of the embroidery. :)
Of course this piece is available for purchase in my shop - I would love to find a good home for it! It would make a gorgeous gift and add a touch of old-fashioned charm to any space. I hope to create more pieces like this!
