A few weeks ago I bought a few T-shirts from my favorite craft store to do some tutorials with. I needed a basic black tank top to wear with an outfit and couldn't find one for cheap (seriously? $8 for a swing tank? Yes...cheapskate is one of my nicknames.) So I decided to make my own out of one of the shirts I bought. This is probably the simplest DIY I've ever shared with you! Seriously. All you need is a pair of scissors and a crew-neck T-shirt. I give you: the Boyfriend Tank DIY. Boom. Here we go!
- Black (or color of your choice) T-shirt, crew-neck and a size larger than you normally wear
I got my T-shirt at Hobby Lobby, but you can find these basic shirts at any craft store! Try on the shirt and mark where you want the hemline to fall. Remember the jersey fabric will curl, so cut accordingly. Confession: I almost cut mine to fall as a crop top to go with my high-waisted Dockers, but I lost my nerve at the last minute and cut it long enough to be able to tuck in to my waistband. Heh.
Next, cut off the sleeves, leaving the sleeve/shoulder seam intact. You can go back in and trim it down, but I opted to leave the armpit portion of the seam intact to keep the fabric from stretching out too badly.
And you're done! Wasn't that super easy? I love mine. The arm holes are a little long, so I wear either a sports bra or a black bra underneath for a little privacy. Have fun!
